Description
From 1896 to 1969 Jamestown high school students took the ferry to Newport, two and one-half miles across Narragansett Bay. The 25 minute ride created experiences and friendships that will last a lifetime and provided a unique element in their journey to adulthood. This oral history, told by the people who rode the ferry to school, documents the last 30 years from 1938 to 1969 when the Newport Bridge was completed, and the Jamestown Ferry disappeared forever.
